a date night to remember

"it's a miracle....a true blue spectacle, a miracle come true...."

we had quite the memorable date night with approx 2,000 other st. louisans and BARRY MANILOW!!! that's right...a true blue spectacle...we can't smile without him...at the copa, copa cabana.....

a friend at work let some of us know that they were selling tickets to his concert for $10 so i asked ed if he would be open to going for a date night. surprisingly he said yes (i truly wasn't expecting that), but we both figured it would be something we could tell the kids about one day. i think it's safe to say we were both a little sarcastic about going but boy were we in for a shocker. the lights go down, the smoke machine starts up, the stage where the band was set starts opening in the middle, and there in the shadows of the smoke is mr. manilow. all the ladies are on their feet, their manilow glow sticks waving in the air (they handed these out when you entered the arena), everyone just screaming. all of this for mr. manilow. we just laughed! then he started singing and we both were sucked right into it all (not the screaming or the waving of glow sticks, but smiling and singing along). we had so much fun that night! we really did!
so it was a date night we won't soon forget and eventually we'll be able to tell the kids we saw barry manilow live way back when.

a note from ed about manilow mania:
The treat was that Sonja got to experience the sounds of a Clower family road trip via the mid 70's and our Green Ford Van. I went back and forth between getting misty eyed thinking about my sweet mom singing in the passenger seat with my dad driving us down the road and singing along laughing outloud at all of the screaming and swooning. It was a great time and a great way to introduce Sonja to the man that I hope to be one day. Manilow Mania...Catch the Fever

I am misty eyed thinking about it too! Like I said, Barry Manilow was my first concert and I know more words to Barry Manilow songs than any other band except for the Dead and Bob Marley... WOW!
