We took our time with breakfast and cleaned up and made our way to the ZOO; arriving about 1:00 and we departed close to 6:00 and yes... that alone should be an indicator as to the great time we had at the ZOO. Surprisingly it was not as crowded as we thought it was going to be so we were able to see everything we wanted to without any real wait. We got to see the hippos, and some other large animals at the rivers edge. The highlight in this part of the ZOO was to see the hippos and the elephants...they were sooo big. After the rivers edge refreshment was in order and the ladies all enjoyed there different beverages.
On the way we had to carry out the tradition of neices and nephews going to the zoo: getting your face painted. This was the sweetest thing to watch and as best I could tell Madi loved it as much we loved watching her get it done
Next on Madi's list was the penguins. Onthe way we happened across some grizzly bears and they were big, had big teeth and really big claws; but what a treat to see them live and up close. Next...the penguins and boy was it cold in there!!! I don't know which was more exciting to see: happy feet live and in person or big brown eyes light up at the sight of all the penguins? (clearly the big brown eyes).
Around the corner from the Penguins was the Polar bear. We got to see him walk around; unfortunately with a limp this time we think he may have a bad ankle. Anyway, we got to see him do laps in his little pool doing the back stroke...that was awesome.
We went from the Polar Bear to see the lions, zebras, camels, and best of all and Madi's special request...the GIRAFFES. The sweetest thing about the Giraffes was that a baby boy was born 3 weeks ago today and we got to see him and his mom and dad up close and it was great!!
We went to the Lizard and snake exhibit and Jenny and Madi got to look around and see all the huge snakes, bugs, turtles etc. to their hearts content.
At this point in the day we all were pretty well pooped out and we consulted our resident ZOO fan...no it wasn't me...and Madi had two more requests...to ride the train and to see the penguins one more time. We accomplished the former and not the later; but I think the train ride quickly made up for not seeing the little guys in tuxedos. Jenny and Madi rode the train all the way around the ZOO and got to see it all. According to a close source...the train may have been the biggest hit of the day.
We made our way back to the car, made it home, some had sushi for dinner, others had chicken nuggets, others a cheeseburger. High School Musical 2 was rented for a big brown eyed Madi bug...and needless to say I am sitting in for the real blogging champion...Punjab who I believe I just heard snore for the second or third time. After all it is 10:54 and I am doing my best to fill the shoes of my sweet wife.
We had a great day and it was mostly fun because we were all together today all day. It is such fun being with jenny and Madi again period; but having them all to ourselves it such a gift words don't quite do it justice...We've got another big day tomorrow and hopefully the real blogger will be back on line tomorrow night. We love you all and we love our family.
